To say I look forward to each new installment of this series is an understatement. I am so grateful to you for this work, Brent, and for the bread-crumb trail you are laying out. Yes, a better beach -- this is essentially what the folks at Reggio Emilia figured out and have managed to operationalize across an entire city for generations. And yes, a modern 8-Year Study! I proposed exactly that just a few weeks ago in this column -- https://samchaltain.substack.com/p/for-americas-high-schools-is-college -- perhaps there will be some steady movement in that direction?

This entry leaves me, an association employee, feeling like we CAN do more. And yet, I’m sure you’re aware associations are under scrutiny and sometimes attack from parent rights groups that feel strongly accreditation standards should be wielded to enforce their own specific brand of values rather than another set of values. Whose values? Human development values of course…but often those practices have become politicized in ignorant ways. Our “beach” would indeed have to be funded differently as you identify in your first lever.
